Practice charter
We have a practice charter which outlines
practice/patient responsibilities. This is displayed in the waiting room at each
surgery.
Data Protection Act
This practice is governed by the Data Protection
Act. This requires us to keep our data safe and secure and to use it
in certain ways. We are not allowed to divulge data in such a way that
would allow a person to be identified with that piece of information. We
are allowed to pool data for research, audit, health service administration and
planning, in such a way that no-one can be recognised. Under certain very
rare circumstances we may find that there is a duty to pass on patient
identifiable information without their permission, eg terrorism, gross firearm
misuse, as we have a duty of care to our community as well as the individual.
In certain circumstances a court may legally press us for information.
You have a right to see your medical record.
If your records hold information about anyone else, then that information may be
withheld.
Test Results
When a blood sample is taken, you should allow three
to four working days between calling us for results Should the doctor
identify an urgent problem you will be contacted as soon as possible.
Other tests take longer and the nurse or doctor will advise you when to call.
Please phone after 10am for test results.
Chaperones
We offer chaperones for all intimate examinations
when required. However, if a nurse is not available, this may necessitate
a return visit when a nurse is available to act as a chaperone.
Complaints Procedure
We attempt to provide an efficient, effective and
caring service but we accept that there will be times when you are dissatisfied.
If you wish to make a complaint, please first
contact our practice Manager- Mrs Kash Gopee at Kessingland surgery. Details of
our complaints procedure are displayed at each surgery.
Zero Tolerance
This practice operates the NHS Zero Tolerance policy
to any physical or verbal abuse to staff or other patients.
GP Registrar Scheme
We are accredited as a training practice.
This
means that we sometimes have Doctors working for us, normally six months at a
time. these Doctors are fully qualified and have experience in hospital
medicine. They will be gaining experience to make their transition to
General Practice. Video recording of consultations will be taken on
occasion for educational purposes. No recording will be taken without
written consent of the patient. No recording will be taken of
intimate physical examinations.
Medical students
We regularly have students from Cambridge University
with us for teaching purposes.
Carers
Do you look after someone who is ill,
frail, disabled or mentally ill?
As a Carer, you are entitled to have your needs
assessed by Adult Care Services. A Carer's Assessment is a chance to
talk about your needs as a carer and the possible ways help could be
given. It also looks at the needs of the person you care for.
There is no charge for an assessment.
If you are a carer, please ask at Reception for a
CARERS IDENTIFICATION AND REFERRAL FORM which you can
complete to let us know about your caring responsibilities.

Patient Participation Group
A patient participation group has been set up as a
means of exchanging views between patients and the practice regarding the
delivery of health care.
At the present time, we have 10 patient
representatives from Kessingland, and meetings are held every three months at
the surgery. If you have a suggestion, please place it in the box at
reception, or post it to the Chairman of the Kessingland Participation Group,
c/o Kessingland Surgery.
