IN AN EXTREME EMERGENCY,

i.e, chest pains, acute asthma or collapse - CALL 999

AFTER SURGERY HOURS

If you need a doctor, telephone your usual main surgery, where you will be automatically diverted to Anglian Medical Care, who provide out of hours cover for our patients.

OUT-OF-HOURS COVER

The Waveney Primary care Trust is responsible for out of hours cover in our area.  Your call will automatically be diverted to Anglian Medical Care.  A trained receptionist will take details of your problem and arrange for a local doctor or nurse practitioner to give telephone advice, to see you at one of the medical bases or arrange to visit you at home if appropriate.

MINOR INJURY UNITS

Your Local Alternative to A&E

There are three Minor Injury Units (MIU) in the area:

  • Beccles MIU at Beccles Hospital, St Mary's Road, is open 8am to 10 pm, seven days a week.
  • Patrick Stead MIU at Patrick Stead Hospital, Bungay Road, Halesworth is open 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday
  • Southwold MIU at Southwold surgery, York Road, (not at Southwold Hospital) is open 8.30am to 6pm.

The units are all staffed by experienced health care professionals who can help with a range of conditions, such as wounds requiring stitches, burns, scalds, sprains, advice on possible broken bones, splinters, items stuck in eyes/noses, minor head injuries and nosebleeds. You do not require an appointment and the average waiting time may be only around 20 minutes. The units are open to anyone.

When the unit is closed patients are advised to phone their local GP surgery for advice on out of hours cover.
